Libraries around the world
In 2005 I had the good fortune to take a 5 month leave to study library architecture and design. I visited 103 libraries in Europe, U.S., and Canada, interviewing staff and architects, taking photographs, and trying to absorb the principles and practices that result in highly effective library spaces. A small selection of the over 10,000 photographs I took during this study tour, along with others from my travels, are highlighted in these Galleries. Feel free to download and use them, with attribution, as you wish.
This Gallery is very much UNDER CONSTRUCTION. I hope to take the time over the next few years to add galleries from each of the libraries I have visited. But developing useful metadata will take time, and I may end up using a different venue for sharing these photos of some remarkable library spaces. Meanwhile, your questions and suggestions on the Gallery and my photo collection are welcome!
